Make this quick stovetop apple cinnamon oatmeal for a warm, comforting breakfast ready in under 20 minutes. It uses simple ingredients for a flavorful morning meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water or milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 medium apple, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional, for topping)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the rolled oats, water or milk, diced apple, cinnamon, and salt in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the oats are creamy and the apples are tender. Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. If using, stir in the brown sugar now.
  5. Divide the oatmeal into bowls. Drizzle with maple syrup before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, sauté the diced apples with half the cinnamon in a small amount of butter for 3 minutes before adding them to the oats while cooking.
  • Use almond milk or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
  • This recipe is a great base; add pecans or walnuts for extra crunch.
