Make fluffy pancakes using applesauce for natural sweetness, reducing your need for extra syrup. This is a simple, reliable breakfast recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Whisk these dry ingredients together.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are fine.
  4. Gently fold in the applesauce.
  5. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake.
  7. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Flip when bubbles appear on the surface.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a healthier breakfast option, use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • If your applesauce is chunky, blend it slightly before adding it to the batter for a smoother texture.
  • This recipe makes great kid friendly breakfast portions.
