Make this Big Mac Sloppy Joes recipe for a quick, comforting, and messy weeknight dinner. It combines seasoned ground beef with a homemade tangy special sauce, served on sesame seed buns with classic toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish (for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard (for sauce)
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (for sauce)
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (for sauce)
  • 1/4 cup finely shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle slices
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 6 sesame seed hamburger buns
  • Extra shredded lettuce and pickle slices for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Special Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of sweet pickle relish, 1 teaspoon of yellow mustard, onion powder, and paprika. Mix well until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat, until the beef is fully browned and the onion is soft, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Simmer the Mixture: Stir in the water, ketchup, 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard, 1 tablespoon of sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, and sugar into the beef mixture. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cook uncovered for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  4. Toast the Buns: While the beef simmers, lightly toast the sesame seed hamburger buns.
  5. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: For each sandwich, place a slice of American cheese over the bottom bun. Spoon a generous amount of the sloppy joe mixture over the cheese. Top the meat with a small amount of shredded iceberg lettuce, a few dill pickle slices, and then place the top bun on.
  6. Serve immediately with extra shredded lettuce and pickles on the side for topping.

Notes

  • For a Keto Big Mac Sloppy Joes variation, skip the buns and serve the mixture over lettuce wraps or cauliflower rice.
  • If you prefer a tangier sauce, increase the white vinegar in the meat mixture by one teaspoon.
  • This recipe is easily adaptable for a One Pan Sloppy Joes cleanup by using a deep skillet.
