Make this easy Caramel Apple Dump Cake using only four ingredients. It delivers warm apples, gooey caramel, and a buttery topping. You can bake it in the oven or prepare it in the slow cooker for a simple fall dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup caramel bits or chips
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if baking. If using a slow cooker, lightly grease a 6-quart slow cooker insert.
  2. If baking, pour the apple pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. If using the slow cooker, pour the filling into the bottom of the insert.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple layer. Do not mix.
  4. Scatter the caramel bits evenly over the cake mix layer.
  5. Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface, aiming to cover the cake mix as much as possible.
  6. For Oven Method: Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. For Slow Cooker Method: Cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours or on HIGH for 1.5 to 2 hours, until the topping is set and the edges are bubbly.
  8. Let the dump cake cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute the yellow cake mix with a spice cake mix.
  • If you do not have caramel bits, you can use 1/2 cup of caramel sauce drizzled over the cake mix layer instead of the bits.
  • This recipe is a high-CPC phrase item for easy holiday potluck dessert planning.
