Make this bold, zesty Cowboy Butter Dipping Sauce at home. It is a quick, flavorful blend of garlic, herbs, and lemon, perfect for steak or grilled meats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons shallots, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat or in a microwave-safe bowl. Do not let the butter brown.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the minced garlic, chopped shallots, parsley, and chives.
  3. Pour the melted butter over the herb and garlic mixture. Stir well to combine.
  4. Add the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes, if using.
  5. Whisk the sauce until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  6. Season the cowboy butter with salt and pepper to your preference.
  7. Serve warm as a dipping sauce for steak, or use as a topping for chicken, shrimp, or roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • For a compound butter texture, let the mixture cool slightly and then press it into a log shape using plastic wrap. Chill until firm before slicing.
  • This sauce works well as a versatile drizzling sauce for grilled vegetables.
  • Use fresh herbs for the best flavor in this garlic herb compound butter recipe.
