Make a quick, sweet, and tart homemade cranberry sauce using fresh cranberries, orange zest, and cinnamon. This simple recipe is ready fast and perfect for your holiday table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Rinse the fresh cranberries thoroughly. Discard any soft or damaged berries.
  2. Combine the sugar, water, orange juice, orange zest, and cinnamon in a medium saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  4. Add the rinsed cranberries to the boiling liquid.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 10 to 15 minutes. The cranberries will begin to pop and soften.
  6. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. It will thicken more as it cools.
  7. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Let the sauce cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  8. Transfer the sauce to a serving dish. This sauce tastes best after chilling for several hours or overnight.

Notes

  • You can make this sauce up to one week ahead of time and store it covered in the refrigerator.
  • For a less sweet sauce, reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, use an immersion blender briefly after cooling slightly, but do not over-process.
