This is the classic ham salad recipe you need for quick lunches and simple spreads. It uses leftover ham and comes together in minutes for a creamy, savory result perfect for sandwiches or crackers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked ham, finely chopped or ground
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely diced
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped or ground ham into a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Add the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, Dijon mustard, diced celery, black pepper, and salt to the bowl.
  3. Mix all ingredients together until the mixture is fully combined and creamy. Do not overmix.
  4. Taste the ham salad and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill the ham salad in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to blend.
  6. Serve the ham salad on bread for a classic ham salad sandwich, with crackers, or in lettuce wraps for a low carb ham salad option.

Notes

  • For a tangier ham salad, substitute half the mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, pulse the ingredients in a food processor until you reach your desired consistency, but stop before it becomes a paste.
  • This is an excellent make ahead salad; it keeps well for up to five days in an airtight container.
