Ingredients
Scale
4 cups water
1/2 cup fresh ginger, sliced thinly (no need to peel)
4 bags lemon herbal tea
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
Optional: 1 lemon, thinly sliced for garnish
Instructions
Combine the water and sliced ginger in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 15 minutes to extract the ginger flavor. This creates a strong ginger tea base.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the lemon herbal tea bags to the hot liquid. Let the tea steep for 5 minutes.
Remove and discard the tea bags and the ginger slices.
Stir in the fresh lemon juice and the honey or maple syrup until dissolved.
Allow the tea mixture to cool to room temperature.
Transfer the tea to a pitcher. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours until very cold.
Serve the healthy drinks over ice. Garnish each glass with a fresh lemon slice if desired.
Notes
For an extra spicy bite, increase the fresh ginger to 3/4 cup.
If you prefer a stronger lemon tea flavor, add the zest of one lemon during the simmering step.
This recipe makes a great base for a refreshing beverage; adjust sweetness based on your preference.
