A quick and flavorful marinade that keeps tuna steaks tender and delicious, perfect for grilling or pan-searing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 4 tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes if using.
  2. Place the tuna steaks in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.
  3. Pour the marinade over the tuna steaks, ensuring they are fully coated.
  4. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes. Do not marinate for too long, as the acid can ‘cook’ the fish.
  5. Remove tuna from marinade just before cooking. Discard the remaining marinade.
  6. Grill or pan-sear the tuna steaks to your desired doneness.

Notes

  • For a meal planning shortcut, you can prepare the marinade ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • This marinade is also excellent for salmon or other firm fish.
  • Serve with steamed rice and your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.
