Make a creamy, energizing matcha milk tea at home that rivals your favorite cafe drink. This recipe balances earthy green tea with sweet milk for a simple afternoon pick-me-up.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 teaspoon ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water (175°F / 80°C)
  • 1 tablespoon sweetener (sugar or maple syrup, adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl to remove clumps.
  2. Add the hot water to the sifted matcha. Whisk vigorously using a bamboo whisk or a small electric frother until the mixture is smooth and slightly frothy, with no clumps remaining. This is your matcha base.
  3. In a separate glass, combine the sweetener with a small amount of the milk and stir until dissolved.
  4. Add the ice cubes to the glass.
  5. Pour the remaining milk over the ice.
  6. Slowly pour the prepared matcha base over the milk layer.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade matcha latte.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use whole milk or oat milk.
  • If you do not have a whisk, you can shake the matcha and water vigorously in a sealed jar.
  • Adjust the amount of sweetener based on your preference for a less sweet green tea experience.
