Make this zesty summer cooling mint limeade for a bright, tart, and natural refreshment perfect for large gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice (about 68 limes)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water (for simple syrup)
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, lightly packed
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime slices and extra mint sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup: Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat.
  2. Muddle the mint: Place the mint leaves in the bottom of a large pitcher. Pour the hot simple syrup over the mint leaves. Let the mint steep in the syrup for 15 minutes.
  3. Strain the syrup: Press the mint leaves gently to extract flavor, then strain the syrup into a clean bowl, discarding the leaves. Let the mint syrup cool completely.
  4. Combine: In the large pitcher, mix the cooled mint syrup, 1 cup fresh lime juice, and 4 cups cold water. Stir well.
  5. Serve: Fill glasses with ice. Pour the homemade limeade over the ice. Garnish each glass with a lime slice and a fresh mint sprig.

Notes

  • For a healthier beverage, reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup.
  • You can make the mint syrup base up to 3 days ahead and store it in the refrigerator.
  • This recipe scales easily for big batches of summer drinks.
