Make this easy, no-bake Pistachio Puppy Chow, also known as Muddy Buddies. It uses white chocolate and pistachio pudding mix for intense flavor and a vibrant green color, perfect for parties or edible gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 11 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 12 ounces white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter (or sunflower seed butter for nut-free)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (3.4 ounce) box instant pistachio pudding mix
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped, shelled pistachios (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Place the Rice Chex cereal in a very large bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until the mixture is completely smooth. This usually takes 1 to 1.5 minutes total.
  3. Stir the vanilla extract into the melted white chocolate mixture.
  4. Pour the white chocolate mixture over the cereal in the large bowl. Gently fold the mixture until the cereal is evenly coated.
  5. Sprinkle the dry instant pistachio pudding mix over the coated cereal. Gently toss or stir until the cereal pieces are fully covered with the green powder.
  6. Place the powdered sugar into a large zip-top bag. Add the coated cereal mixture to the bag. Seal the bag, leaving some air inside. Shake the bag until all the cereal pieces are coated with powdered sugar.
  7. Spread the finished Pistachio Puppy Chow onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool and set. If you are using chopped pistachios, sprinkle them over the top while the coating is still slightly sticky.
  8. Once completely cool, break apart any large clumps. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • For the best texture, do not skip the step of spreading the coated cereal onto a sheet to cool before storing.
  • If you want a more intense pistachio flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of pistachio extract along with the vanilla.
  • This recipe makes a great edible gift when packaged in clear cellophane bags tied with festive ribbon.
