An addictive sweet and salty snack mix with a crunchy praline coating, perfect for parties or edible gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 cups Crispix or Chex cereal
  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the Crispix or Chex cereal and pecan halves.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar until smooth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  5. Pour the brown sugar mixture over the cereal and pecans in the large bowl. Stir gently until everything is evenly coated.
  6. Spread the coated mixture in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even crisping.
  8. Turn off the oven and let the mix cool completely in the oven with the door slightly ajar. This helps it become extra crunchy.
  9. Once completely cool, break the mixture into clusters or shards.
  10. Store in airtight containers. For gifts, package in cellophane bags or decorative tins.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the brown sugar mixture.
  • This snack mix can be made up to a week in advance and stored at room temperature.
  • Ensure the mix is completely cool before storing to prevent sogginess.
