2 oz bourbon or dark rum
1 oz pumpkin puree
0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
0.75 oz ginger syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Ice
For Garnish: Cinnamon stick, star anise, or dehydrated orange slice
For Rim (optional): Cinnamon sugar
Instructions
If rimming your glass, prepare it by moistening the rim with a lemon wedge and dipping it in cinnamon sugar.
Combine bourbon or rum, pumpkin puree, lemon juice, ginger syrup, and Angostura bitters in a cocktail shaker.
Add ice to the shaker and shake well until thoroughly chilled.
Double strain the mixture into your prepared glass filled with fresh ice.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick, star anise, or a dehydrated orange slice.
Notes
To make ginger syrup: Combine equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan. Add sliced fresh ginger and bring to a simmer, stirring until sugar dissolves. Let it steep for 15-20 minutes, then strain and cool.
Adjust sweetness and tartness to your preference.
For a non-alcoholic version, omit the spirit and add a splash of sparkling water or ginger ale.
