Crispy, savory cheddar crackers made with Rice Krispies for an extra crunch. A perfect make-ahead Southern party snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and shredded cheddar cheese until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Gently fold in the Rice Krispies cereal and cayenne pepper, if using.
  5. Shape the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each cracker.
  6. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass or your fingers.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  8. Let the crackers cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For best results, use sharp cheddar cheese.
  • You can add other spices like garlic powder or onion powder for variation.
  • Store cooled crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • These crackers can be made ahead and stored for parties or gatherings.
